Roy,

Wouldn't the announcement of a $1,000 per port low-end switch from Brocade compete more directly against the hub guys?

I saw a picture of the McData switch, and it looks like three Brocade SilkWorms in a single cabinet. From the description, it sounds like one is used as a hot spare in case of a failure in either of the other switches. It also appears as if the switches are cascaded port to port. Wouldn't it be better from a performance standpoint if they could be linked via the backplane, or better yet, to have all the ports in a single chassis?

I agree with your comments about 1/4 Gig gear. This equipment works really well in a number of applications.

Here is a question that I have never had answered to my satisfaction. If you have a mixture of 1/4 Gig and 1 Gig gear, how do you connect them together? Do you have to use a gateway or router in a server with two cards, or is there an easier way?
