Cable modems are pretty good.

I use two, one for pure data and one for other stuff. I plan on getting another for my son this summer when the present ISP contract runs out.

Another nice thing is uptime. Since October I have been "out" a total of less than 20 minutes. Far superior to the data feed I had on satellite, and superior to the land lines used to access the ISPs my wife and son have.

The real problem is on the "other end". Usually I can fly (comparatively) through other sites but occasionally I notice SI, for instance, drags a bit. Still, it's worth dumping the ISPs I have for.

EDIT One possible problem downstream may be market saturation, slowing down the response. Time will tell.

BTW, you also have to spring for an Ethernet card for the cable modem. <e>
