Do you think average Americans can afford those costs? Depends where you live and your micro climate. In Hawaii today folks can save substantially over their local grid costs today with payback in just a few years. Same in the Caribbean, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands. I've designed and engineered a few systems there that paid for themselves in just a few years. Australia will be the first country to be 100% renewables in less than fifteen years. Mostly solar. Meanwhile grid connected people continue to pay higher, and higher costs. I don't. As do millions of folks who are totally "off grid" today.
