Some Republicans, ex-Republicans, would gladly swap out Nikki Haley for Donald Trump. Maybe they're planning odd-red massacres for Vance and Trump at this very moment. An armed civil war between the Right and the Far-Right, just thug-on-thug crime. Nothing to see here, keep moving. . America lacks many of the flexible options found in Parliamentary democracies.

They can- but they'll look like feckless idiots. Oh wait, they already look like that... Vance could have "health problems" and resign, or resign for some other reason (like he was afraid he might fall out a window) and then he could be replaced. :-) The convention is over, which makes it tricky- but if they get especially desperate, and they might, really soon, they could try to shift Vance. I would think he might make a pretty bitter wallflower if he doesn't get to dance, though.
