It is no accident that Trump is claiming that other countries are doing to us what the UK did to us. Like in Australia, there is still a thread of that humiliation running through our culture. Mostly, but not exclusively, because the South took the heavily stratified Imperial British social system and dialed it to 11. And where is the bulk of Trump's most rabid support? Areas where the terms "hillbilly", "redneck" and "white trash" still have meaning. And those areas don't exist because of the educated "elites", but the owners of the sources of their income.
