I would support a system that was fiscally sound and properly managed, yes.

My complaint with government programs is their widespread mismanagement by the bureaucracy (and more likely by top management).

Some redistribution is necessary. My issue has been that it should never have become a way of life.

We are entering a new era and the great challenge is finding a way to reasonable redistribution without an entirely demoralizing loss of purpose for entire societies. People need to have work of some kind in their lives to have a sense of purpose. I don't see Paris Hilton's lifestyle as one most people would truly want to emulate.

Imagine that we are going to be forced to scale up redistribution over the next 20-30 years. Could you design a system that worked effectively and efficiently and effectively for day-to-day living? I believe this is the task before the developed world.

I have a friend I've known for years who is a physician that, for years now, has made it his objective drill water wells in places like Ethiopia where a single water well can change the lives of an entire village of 100s of people. Now and then he takes a month off from his practice and makes the trip, brings the equipment, and drills water wells. The villagers' lives are changed and that is his satisfaction in life, as much as seeing patients I guess.

So, there is plenty of work to be done, it just may not have the same objectives we're used to.
