Whatever you do, don't use "cortados" for "shorts", it could be construed as pejorative, and referring to a lack of potency due to a physical loss of body parts.

Words move around, just like people. For instance, both "algebra" and "alcohol", among many others, came into English from Spanish, and into Spanish from Arabic. One reason I've heard put forward for the success of English as the lingua franca of the economic world, is that it absorbs words and concepts from other languages more easily than, for instance, French. Sort of the Borg of tongues, join or be joined. It's hell to pronounce, though, for a speaker of Spanish, where the rules of pronunciacion are simple and always followed - no exceptions.
