My son went to Davis. For sure, the tuition is a great deal. The housing prices, though, jumped a lot after the pandemic. For both kids, room and board was the bigger expense than tuition.

The California public universities are among the best in the nation, and they are absolutely a bargain. Our son was considering them -- though I discouraged it due to the distance and cost of travel (and $30k higher cost for out of state students).
