RE: "It's always a tough call when managing someone else's money, but I thought it best to err on the side of caution. If I kept positions as large as they were, and they turned against him, given his age those losses might have been permanent since he might not have had time to make them back up".

This issue. How to balance this. Is always somewhat of a dilemma, in my thoughts.
Having said that. I will look around and see how many of my dear friends/classmates/cousins/family.
Are no longer with us. And to not sound silly, I've lost so many good friends that were best. My dawgs.
Thank God my wife and I are still healthy and enjoy (mostly) so many activities together.
We all have an expiration date. Yet we don't know when it comes knocking.
I concur to err on the side of caution (a simile to what I/we did with the AAPL in 2020), to have the funds to enjoy life. Right now my focus is healthy eating, hanging with our daughter & son/daughter in law when their busy schedule allows, good wine (and Hefeweizen) in moderation, hiking, tightening my loop and accuracy with my fly rod. Right Now. While I can.
The taxes are what they are. Work some on reducing them, then get a good night's sleep and move on.
Just my two cents. I need to get back to paying bills, then to the gym for 90 minutes!
Again, thank you and the Wise Sages here for the continued dialogue.
Best,
DWD
