Lieber is scum. He lied about his links to Wuhan U., including being a party to a contract with Wuhan under which he received $50k a month, surely exceeding by several times the salary he received from Harvard. He was being corrupted with big money. The plan was to pressure him expectation that his connections and notoriety would be exploited by the Red Chinese for bigger technology theft. His field of study? Battery work on electric vehicles. The US acted appropriately, before Lieber’s greed could be successfully exploited. Screw Lieber. Let him go work for his new master$. But he can forget about $50k a month. It will be a shallow rice bowl for him. If he stays in the West, he will be monitored appropriately. In other words, he’s blown. He has nothing further of significant interest to offer, certainly nothing worth $50k a month. But there are many others like him who are undiscovered. Big money has a lot of appeal. Don’t make me laugh. Typical Chinese spying, theft, and corruption at our top level research universities. Theft of work which they cannot do themselves.
