Tesla has said that they will offer FSD to other car makers. Without becoming a platform, Tsla will never become like Msft/amzn/aapl.

Exactly. He started selling the cars to get the money from government and early adopters who in our area wanted to look cool and green to their kids and their kids peers driving them to school. They also made it so they could drive for free as solo drivers to the office in lanes that required multiple occupants. A big scam but he was brilliant to get it.

They he made solar roof tiles to charge batteries that you can power your house and your car and probably eventually sell the power back to the grid for a profit even using your car battery to provide extra electrons when there is a grid failure or it is very hot but the sun is blocked by wildfire smoke... He also plans to let people use their cars to drive others for a fee. Each of these he'll sell subscriptions for the software to keep it all going PLUS take a cut (Soprano Tax) of the revenue and nobody will have a choice to pay if they want their stuff to work.

I actually tried to get something like this started in 2000 but with hot tub water heaters as the starting project rather than cars to save the planet. I even had a demo working that heated mine to 106F with the only electricity used to run the fountain pump to move the water. I even suggested putting it at the old HP Labs building that became Tesla's HQ before they moved to Texas. Funny really. You have to really appreciate how hard it is to get good ideas into something real... Everyone I knew was 40 yrs old or much older and had no interest unless it was to hire me to come work for them in their companies... His overlooked skill is getting his visions into reality, over and over and over. Probably nobody since Edison, Ford or Bill and Dave Packard were so successful at it.
