<The latest Iomega lawsuit indicates the company may have given false info about Jazz 2 to counter sales growth of Syquest's sparq product>

Perhaps someone could be so good as to explain how preannouncing a $500+ drive using 2GB @ $150+ media will forestall sales of a $200 drive using 1GB @ $33 media. Apparently, wouldbe Syquest customers are willing to wait months just to pay more for less.

>>Speaking of Quest, shouldn't SyQuest investors sue because Quest has not been shipped yet, despite the company's announcements that it would be in stores by the end of '97? And since SyQuest is now saying that they will only ramp up Quest production if OEMs demand it, isn't that worse than what Iomega did with Jaz2?<<

All -

After posting the above, I realized that there's a very good reason why SyQuest isn't being sued by anyone. Not because they haven't made overly optimistic statements. Not that the stock price isn't less than half what it was in October when they were claiming Quest would ship by the end of the year.

No, the real reason nobody is suing SyQuest is that they don't have any money.

Iomega makes a much better target, since they are sitting on a huge pile of cash.
