Far as I know my history, when the USSR broke up, the West picked Putin to lead Russia. Favoured by many.

He was fated by all.

George Bush said he wouldn't have invited Putin to his Ranch if he didn't trust him.

Flashback: President Bush on Putin’s 'Soul' (nbcnews.com)

What happened?

Looks to be Putin turned out to be loyal to Russia and works for that countries interest. Maybe that was not part of the original plan ?

Maybe some of our politicians ought to do the same. Work for The USA's interest, or Politicians in the UK, the UK's interest (where I live).

Seems to be so much baloney out there, spending billions (and trillions) on things that do not benefit the host country.
