For those outside the St. Louis area, the Post-Dispatch published a short article on Spartech's recent quarterly report. "Spartech Corp. said Tuesday its first-quarter profit rose 28 percent to $7 million, a record for any quarter. The plastics company's sales rose 17 percent to $133.1 million in the quarter, which ended Jan. 31. An ice storm limited production at three plants in Canada in January, but the decline there was more than offset by sales from the recently purchased Preferred Plastic sheet division of Echlin Inc. That purchase was largely responsible for the rise in profits, too."
