My understanding is that Boar's Head runs a processing and packing facility that is the likely source of the listeria outbreak. Slaughterhouses kill meat animals, although smaller ones might include aging in walk-in coolers, and even butchering and packaging cuts. I have seen nothing suggesting that Boar's Head's pork was contaminated at a slaughterhouse.

Your post included a leap that Trump, by relaxing slaughterhouse inspection requirements (done by FDA personnel on site, at least they had been), was the cause of the Boar's Head processing facility's listeria outbreak. Slaughterhouses are not a likely source of listeria, at least to my understanding of the bug and also of slaughterhouse processes.

I worked for a day and a half at a meat packing plant, horrible job, saw pig eye balls on the floor they were saving to send to a teaching hospital, carcasses everywhere. saw the big pot they used to make hot dog wieners. Didn't eat hot dogs for a long time after that. the thing that really got me is when I tried to eat my lunch in the stockyard, a steer was right behind me and when I turned to look at him one eyeball was hanging out.

Not great for those who advocate self regulation and "market forces" as superior to government.

Again I will point out that regulation -- on a level playing field-- (a blend of free markets, socialism plus democracy) is superior to Ayn Rand and Donald Trump extreme debunked ideals.

The real issues are how money can capture regulation and regulators, plus transparency.
