Positive attitudes don't count for chit when you are in the midst of training. No attitude is what it takes. No judgement. No self assessment in the midst of effort. Set a goal, go out and do it. Don't let your 'this is really a worthless endeavor' psychology take over your effort. If its really good then it going to suck but not kill you. As long it does not do permanent damage your effort should be into completing the task not judging it. At the same time set outrageous tasks that are not totally outside of your physical ability. They may be beyond your expectations, but not too close to physical breakdown and failure. Do battle with yourself every time you train, every step of the way, every pound you lift. There is a voice in you that wants you to toe the line of society and just do what is expected what 'gets you by'. A voice that sounds like your mother, or your nanny and is always cautioning you to have a soda or ice cream, to reward yourself for half-assed effort you know, deep inside is not your best. When you are done with a train, you are done. Leave it there. Get ready for the next effort. The next visit to that nasty painful place that tears you up but makes you better and stronger. Just do the train, don't judge the total effort. Save that judgement for the current step. Is it @ your best pace? the now is the only place you should judge, and this is to the moment of effort. All the rest is BS.
