California tackles Y2K bug
February 19, 1998 2:52 PM PST

The Year 2000 bug will cost the State of
California about $243 million, and the costs
could rise even further, according to
officials.

That price tag doesn't count the costs that will be incurred by the state's local and county agencies. For example, the County of Los Angeles expects to spend at least $97 million checking and fixing computer code.

California's local and state officials met for the first time Thursday to develop strategies for fixing the glitch and sharing data across agencies.
