BR,

Pat Mudge seems to have the best take on this CIEN issue.

<<Briefing maintains that the CIENA problems are company and stock specific. The question remains what is the relation between RAC equipment and DWDM equipment. If cutting down the orders of DWDM would affect RAC business any way. To me they appear to be independent of each other.>>

Ciena was a forerunner in the technology for WDM, allowing existing fiber bandwidth gains by 16x + via (to oversimplify), muxing light via frequency (color). Lucent has developed technology to allow an even greater capacity gain in existing fiber. WCOM may be checking out LUs technology before going forward.

As re ASND, it would be neat to know if they are looking down the road at technology for switching light based on WDM, or DWDM, I know Lucent is working on this.
