Poland’s Ukrainian Legion Recruitment Postponed, Project Still ‘On Paper’ Official recruitment to the Ukrainian Legion in Poland, where Ukrainians are supposed to undergo training abroad, has not yet begun. This was reported by the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna newspaper. According to journalists, the official recruitment of volunteers for the Ukrainian Legion has not yet begun, and at the moment this project remains merely an “idea on paper.” At the end of July, Vasyl Zvarych, then Ukraine’s ambassador to Poland, stated that the project was scheduled to be launched by early August. Zvarych also noted that a technical agreement should first be signed, outlining the roles of each party. This document was signed during the visit of Ukraine’s First Deputy Defense Minister, Ivan Havryliuk, on Friday. Poland was ready to start training recruits on August 1, but the recruitment never took place. The websites of the Ukrainian embassy and consulates do not contain information about recruitment to the Ukrainian Legion. In response to a request from journalists, the Polish Foreign Ministry said that the Polish Ministry of Defense would comment on the situation. The Polish Defense Ministry stated that responsibility for recruitment rests with the Ukrainian side.
