A hedge fund kingpin with a great long term and last year record (but one bad year two years ago) gave Alcatel along with US Airways as examples of his favorite picks about 3-4 months ago, on CNBC. No, of course I don't remember his name. I do note that US air has gone up about 40% since he mentioned it. Ala has only gone up a bit. Natch, I bought a little Ala, but no U. Of course I generally looked into the company. Its not terribly highly valued, yet enjoys a rock solid telecoms position within the European market. Also has lots of US operations, technology. Undergoing a big restructuring. Somewhat slowly. It has the potential for being a less dramatic LU seems to me. Not much downside, lots of up. Spinning off the train engine subsidiary (which is jointly owned with I think the British GE) to focus on telecom equip. Doug
