I don't have only two options. I don't have any options. You have yet to answer the question of which onslaught. If you don't frame the problem, I can't address options.

NATO kept on coming.

There's a hint, maybe. Perhaps in your onslaught NATO is the onslaught-or. If correct, that's a start of a frame. We still need an onslaaught-ee and a scope. Chop, chop. After all, people are dying.

If appeasement stopped there, Putin wouldn't have invaded Ukraine in '21. If we appease him with Ukraine, like Chamberlin did with Czechoslovakia, he'll follow Hitler's playbook, and attack Poland, maybe after the Balkans. That will bring NATO into it.
