Albert Here is the best story I could find tonight. The future is on the way and it's in the hand of the germans again for now... AMD and Intel to follow. Also just for fun you can check out all the russian medals at Nagano. Time to buy some AMAT for yourself I already own@ 26+. Will pop up big on news of Korean funding from IMF. And then on orders from Japan for new .25u equipment. That nuckelhead Yousef thinks 300mm won't come into play for years show you how far behind he really is.

Albert,
Another good news in regard to AMD.

Hitachi Announces AMD-Based Consumer PC With LCD Monitor
TOKYO, JAPAN, 1998 FEB 19 (Newsbytes) -- By Martyn Williams,
Newsbytes. Hitachi has announced the release of a new desktop Flora Prius PC that comes equipped with an LCD (liquid crystal display) monitor. The new machine is around half the price of Hitachi's previous LCD-equipped desktop PCs and is aimed at the consumer market. "This is a value model," explained a Hitachi spokeswoman. "Usually PCs with LCD monitors are priced over 300,000 yen ($2,385) but this is for the consumer market so we have set the recommended price at 159,800 yen ($1,270)," she said.
The company achieved its largest cost saving by switching from a Pentium central processor produced by Intel Corp. to a K6 processor, produced by Advanced Micro Devices. "Intel still has a very good brand name in the business market, but for this machine pricing is important," she said. The two manufacturers offer comparable performance, the spokeswoman continued, but customers for this new machine will not be so inclined to spend a lot more for the Intel brand name. In addition to the processor change, the company was also able to save money by using components from other personal computers Hitachi makes, so no new parts had to be designed for the new units. The system also comes without a pre-installed word processor or spreadsheet software. The new Flora Prius 30 comes equipped with a 12.1 STN color LCD monitor. The computer itself is
housed inside a microtower case, 30cm high, 38.7 cm deep and 9.5 cm wide. In addition to the display, the machine comes equipped with a 200-megahertz AMD K6 MMX processor, 32 megabytes of main memory (synchronous DRAM), a 2.1 gigabyte hard disk, 16- times speed CD-ROM drive, 33.6-kbps modem and a 10 Base T/100 Base TX network adapter.

Best wishes

James

WOW! I hadn't stopped by the AMD threads in awhile, so I had to rub my eyes when I saw your name again.

Nice to have you back!
