He makes a good point.

Poor relative performance of those equities in recent decades due in part to increasing number of investors who've realized taking personal custody of the physical makes it more difficult for confiscatory levels of taxation to be collected. Very easy for gov to do with paper equity AWA physical in the custody of financial intermediaries like brokers or banks.

I'm thinking that this is a theme in most of the commodity industries. The producer is not being rewarded in the market. The guy that does the work, be it a farmer, a miner, a rancher, or a logger are all having a tough time.
