But that isn’t a proper metric.

The pandemic was an event that he handled at least as well as anyone else would. Certainly, you can’t argue that Biden would have done as well. That is not remotely possible. I believe trump could have done far better had democrats not been committed to weaponizing it politically. One can only infer they wages it as bad as they could make it with shit like idiot mask mandates and shutting down local economies.
