Several times from 2022 to 2024, the US has granted Ukraine aid in the form of critical electrical infrastructure equipment that takes a long time to replenish. Back in 2022, the US committed more than $53 million of electrical equipment aid to Ukraine. The administration located this equipment in the United States--reducing domestic US stockpiles. Our stockpile of electrical transformers was already vulnerable, due to past hurricanes, global supply delays, and domestic terror attacks. Electrical steel was and is in short supply. An attempt to use the Defense Production Act to fix this failed. Despite our vulnerabilities in the US, the Biden-Harris administration granted another electrical equipment aid package to Ukraine in 2023--this time much larger, $125 million. This included more electrical transformers. In January 2024, the US sent Ukraine more high-voltage autotransformers. These autotransformers take almost a year to manufacture. Then just two months ago, in August 2024 the US once again purchased and sent 18 autotransformers to Ukraine, "with more on the way". Where has Biden and Harris left the US now, with electrical grids ruined all over the path of Hurricane Helene? How long will it take to restore our critical electrical infrastructure, after we have drained our stockpiles, for years? How many Americans will die? Tom
