<Look at the PA-RISC, PowerPC, Alpha etc. They were ALL better
technology chips because they did NOT have to have x86 reverse
compatibility.>

They are not better technology if the market is not seeking that technology. If the market demands x86 compatibility, then the best technology is the fastest chip that delivers x86 compatibility. it is the market after all which calls the shots. If Alpha or the others could have devivered on a low price, chip that had x86 backwards compatibility then the should have prospered (assuming proper marketing and execution).

A rocket ship may be faster than my Honda Accord, but if the manufacturers can not produce a rocket ship in my price range with the features that I want, it is in reality inferior to the accord.

Bad analogy, but it communicates the point

Jean,

Very good points! Please consider:

1 - x86 compatibility puts a definate 'damper' on 'radical' new chip development, like where's the software? Who's going to do the software? At what expense?

2 - Agree!

3 - I don't know about 'paranoid', but the management knows that the way to continue to and be 'profitable' (we all want that!) they have to continually look for new approaches! FOCUSED - ya' betcha'!

4 - Agree!

JMHO,

Ken

Jean - Re: " BUT, intel blasted them because of 1,2,3,4..."

You just listed 4 excellent reasons to increase your Intel holdings.

And mine.
