Nothing. But it was CBS that made final say on the rules. So Vance just had to straighten them out on the fly.

Vance first claimed that legal status migrants were actually illegal aliens. This was the blunt lie that Vance made, that the moderator corrected him on.

When confronted on this lie (and after Vance had used up his time), Vance continued beyond his allotted time to try to cover up the lie with other lies, implying that these Haitians had obtained their legal status due to Harris policy. The VP is not and never was a "border czar" and she does not set immigration policy.

The "Temporary Protected Status" program under which the Haitian migrants obtained their legal status was created by Congress in 1990 as part of the Immigration Act of 1990.
