Habit. You probably remember something to the effect in the 90s: In order to displace an established software or hardware the new product has to be 2x better for 1/2 the price. - So far Canada's health care system hasn't won in the US despite the fact Canadian are 2x as happy and the pay 1/2 as much (and suffer only 20% of our paperwork). I get books from Kaiser not even a lawyer would have time to read.

Twitter's recommendation algorithm is probably at least as good as TicTok's. Ultimately, however, Twitter failed and sold to Musk is because the audience is limited. Addiction to keeping up with the most current news is probably an affliction much more of SI users than of the general populace. And in that area the platform still delivers, despite its problematic new owner - not because of him.
