But I question it when someone abruptly adopts leftist positions after being a hard-nosed rightest for a number a years. Something happened that caused that.
When your entire frame of reference is flipped upside-down, and you don't realize it, people around you who have been traveling in a straight line will look as if they made a sudden U-turn.
