>> But when our government leaders consistently demonstrate a "loose and complicated relationship" with the facts, that's where people will look elsewhere to find the tr00th.

The problem is you it is very difficult to know the truth about people at that level. If it is Trump, he will be bashed by all the media 24/7. And if it Kam, she will be built up and covered up 24/7 by the same media. "Fact Checking" is a lie, and everyone should have the gumption to understand that there is no such thing. Time and again so-called fact checkers have gotten it wrong, swayed the viewers, and never admitted, they were wrong.

Fact checking is not a thing that happens at debates. "Fact Checking" is what Woodward & Burnstein did during the Watergate investigation: You hear bit, and you "fact check" it before you run with the story. You run down sources, you cross check them against one another, talk to Deep Throat, all of that.

But it not a real time event before a national audience where a George Stephanoplous can effectively lie to the American public.

So, unless you work overtime researching this stuff, you can't know the truth without getting off the beaten path. Which is what happened with Taibbi and the others when Musk took over Twitter. It should not be flippantly discounted.

It seems to me that you're working with news accounts as though they were factual.
