Hill said that business is stable, Korea is ~15% of business, the excess supply in DRAM has beena negative factor, but in 6-12 months, he thinks the situation will have corrected itself. He views 1999 and beyond as very optimistic. He also said that there are no acquisition targets in Korea that appeal to NVLS. He said that NVLS is best positioned to deal with the current market situations (both good and bad).

Novellus CEO: Overall Business Stable,
Though Korea Is Weak

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- Business is stable for Novellus Systems Inc. (NVLS)
despite weakness in the Korean market, according to Rick Hill, the
company's chief executive officer.

Hill said in an interview on CNBC Friday that Korea accounts for about
10% to 15% of the business at Novellus, which makes automated wafer
fabrication systems for the semiconductor industry.

Demand remains strong in the U.S. and Europe, he added.

"I think some companies in the U.S., as well as companies in Europe,
see an opportunity here to invest in new technology and take advantage
of the upturn ... in new products and advancement in technology," Hill
said.

The chief executive said Novellus has no plans to look for bargain
acquisitions in Asia.

"The structure of our company and the strategy of ... Novellus is really
to build in the U.S.," he said.

The executive declined to make specific profit or revenue forecasts for
1998, saying only that Novellus aims for a minimum of 15% annual
growth.

Hoping somebody out here can help me, I have been a lurker on this thread and now I need help with a project for grad school. Does anyone have a recent proxy for Novellus. I am in seek of Richard Hill's most recent compensation (options and salary). Thanks in advance.
