Me: They didn't have the peanut gallery taking potshots at them.

You: I agree about Russert and Brinkley, and I continue to miss them today. I wouldn't miss them if possible.
You miss the point. Were they in place now they would not be without competition from the current peanut gallery, which existed only in the deep shadows then. And they would be reporting the news from the establishment and dismissing the nonsense from the kooks in the peanut gallery just as the major news anchors are now. And you would feel about then just as you feel about the MSM anchors now because they would not be supporting what you want supported. They were the competition-free establishment.

Today, it has all moved toward Info-Tainment, and I just don't tolerate that well.

Their counterparts today still do news. Their counterparts are not the evening commentariat. You're comparing apples and oranges. The info-tainment business was not yet a thing in their time.

Otherwise, mostly political is what I follow.

My other point that you are missing is that your total focus on your boy and politics wrt this issue has caused the baby to have been tossed out with the bathwater and you remain detached from that and the existential danger in that the loss of our entire system of knowledge and institutions.
