RE: Milberg Weiss, et al

Thanks, Truff. I'll probably give them a call and see what information they can send me. And I won't send them the Canonical List of Lawyer Humor. They probably wouldn't think it was funny. <G>

A lawyer was approached by the devil one day. The Prince of Darkness informed him that he could arrange it so that he would win *all* of his court cases, make twice as much money, work half as hard, be appointed to the Supreme Court by the age of 49, and live to be 90. All he had to do was promise the devil his soul, the soul of his wife, his children, and the souls of all of his ancestors.

The lawyer thought for a minute and then responded, "So what's the catch?"

RE: Milberg Weiss, et al firm.

Truff,

I just took a quick look at their web site, and I have to ask a somewhat rhetorical question:

Is there also merit in their claims against 3Com, Adaptec, Anchor Gaming, Boeing, Boston Chicken, Diamond Multimedia, Informix, Macromedia, Merrill Lynch, Oak Technology, Oracle, Read Rite, Silicon Graphics, Symantec, SyQuest, and the dozens of other companies they're going after?

There are some pretty big names in that list. One thing that strikes me is that they're mostly techs, which have quite a bit of volatility. It sounds like they're willing to go after just about anybody whose stock drops.

I'm not saying that they don't have valid claims, just trying to consider all points of view here.

>>With regard to that one matter involving the Milberg Weiss, et al firm, that is possibly the pre-eminent plaintiff securities law firms in the U.S<<

Trufflette, Milberg Weiss, et al has filed suit against Symantec:
(Emphasis is mine)

Symantec Is Sued Over Software
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Symantec is being sued over alleged defects in computer software that it developed, a law firm representing people who bought the product said today.

Milberg Weiss Bershad Hynes & Lerach said in a statement that it filed the suit in Superior Court, County of Santa Clara, Calif.

It said the suit was filed on behalf of plaintiffs who bought the company's Norton AntiVirus software prior to Version 4.0.

"The complaint alleges breach of implied warranty and related claims in connection with defective computer software developed and sold by Symantec," the law firm said.

"The defects concern the inability of the Norton AntiVirus software (prior to Version 4.0, which was introduced in September 1997) to recognize and process dates starting in the year 2000," it said.

The law firm said Symantec was charging customers a fee for an upgrade of the software to solve the problem.

Symantec officials were not immediately available for comment.

The company provides application and system software products for personal computers.

------
Symantec creates an upgraded version of Anti-virus that fixes the
Year 2000 problem and gets sued! While the suit against Iomega may
have a inkling of merit, this suit is pure BS...next thing you know
they'll sue Microsoft after Windows 98 is released saying that
they are charging for an upgrade for a defective program. <g>
