never in my wildest dreams thought I ever would see someone argue that it was not only possible, but desirable to have reality itself subject to popular vote, as seems to be the logical end point of his argument.
That notion is really heavy so early on a Sunday morning. And jarring.

At first glance, I don't quite see how the bread and circus metaphor naturally extends to reality, not really the same paradigm. The metaphor framing notwithstanding, your observation of what characterizes this election, reality being subject to popular vote, strikes me as most insightful. Food for thought.
