Fordy years. Rowing back in a little cup with a spoon. I just followed Penni down the Hall to ice cream day, and there they were. "those little pull-top-paper cups". You just pull off that top (and find a good place to set it, right side up) (ice cream side up, of course, in case any-you-youngers were confused by "right" and couldn't see a gooey disaster coming and should maybe be set back a grade). Grip firmly, the tiny little tab they couldn't make any bigger to make it easier, and pulll it up, and there's the hard white ice cream. HARD, usually. And the first time they give you the wooden platter-spoon-oar tongue depressor, you think: "This...isn't going to work." "Yes it will." "No, it won't. The ice cream is not going to stick to that, because it's flat. How do I say...not...dipped, you idiot. Basic, essential SPOON function, is that scoopy curve in there. Can't you see that. You guys are trying, just trying to see how stupid I am. Again. That is a very cruel way to do this ice cream thing. You guys are sick."

"Your icescream's gonna melt."

"OK, I'll try it."

Gaugs -- <<ice cream with a flat wooden stickspoon.>> In those little pull-top-paper cups, on a hot summer day. Wow, you just took me back forty years.

I hated those little spoons. Made my teeth feel crawly. Even the thought of 'em still does.
