I know what you exactly what you are talking about. Often when I tell people about Matria, they get back to me with the comment that Matria is constantly losing money! Also when investors use stock screens for companies with good earnings, or when they look in the papers, Matria always shows up having a loss. Matria's profitablilty is always camouflaged by the goodwill writeoff.

Matria's profits from ongoing operations will be hidden from the untrained eye for a few more years. It's a 5 year amortization that began in March 96. They are writing off $9.2 million dollars per quarter.
