Bill, Let's get this right. Dell pre-checks Zip drive option for
people asking for their higher end desktops (tower and flat models),
although you can uncheck that option if you want. ($99 for internal
IDE Zip with 2 disks included) For their mid-range desktops, you
are given the option to check an internal Zip into your configuration,
but it is not automatically done for you. Lower models don't even
mention Zip drive option.

Compaq and Hewlett Packard include Zips in higher end models and
there is less choice to reconfigure without a Zip on those models
or to add a Zip to lesser models.

My point in yesterday's post, however, is there is Zip demand from
the OEMs as well as the end-user, as these savy marketers have
figured they can pump up their profits by adding the Zip feature
to their machines. That is where the IOM advertising blitz helps
their customers say "Yeh, I want the one with the Zip." Cha Ching!!
Dell happy, CPQ happy, HWP happy, Sony happy, IOM and IOM shareholders
happy, customer happy. That is what it is all about. Happiness!
