I took a tracking position. GPC is not just auto, it is also industrial part distribution and that’s where a lot (but not all) the weakness came from.

I think it’s a set and forget dividend stock and should recover.

my limited anecdotal experience has been that i recently need parts for my toyota prius. In both cases the toyota dealer was hundreds of dollars more expensive than autozone but my friend who is a used car dealer found much cheaper replacement parts on line. My point is that the company does not seem to have much of a moat so is 14 times earnings a good price? now that internet and ai is upon us competition for auto parts may be even more cut throat. Another issue is that as EV become more prevalent they require less parts and less maintenance which is a negative for auto part suppliers. increased auto insurance cost and availability of lyft uber and waymo all reduce the neccessity of families needing multiple cars.
