Jim: Have alot of experience with modems, bought two new ones recently dur to lightning strikes(Hehehehe) USRX Sportster Fax/modem is about all they handle at the Best Buy,is fast as is useable here at 33.6k, about $129. Can get internal or external ones.Upgradable to 56 k. Also I now have two surge protectors, fancy ones from Radio Shacks Has 6 outs and a phone line protector plug also.Around $50, I think Sig
