In a move to accelerate its cost reduction program, Pan American World Airways (AMEX:PAA - news) said Thursday that it will ground its two remaining widebody A-300's on Feb. 25.

As a consequence of these fleet and schedule actions, Pan Am will be furloughing approximately 225 employees from the affected stations as well as flight personnel and staff at both Miami headquarters and its Dania, Fla. operations base. After these personnel reductions, the airline will have approximately 1250 employees and will offer 44 daily flights to 14 destinations throughout the Northeast, the Midwest, Florida and Puerto Rico.
