Former United States President Bill Clinton is facing backlash from US Muslim and Arab Americans after saying Israel has been “forced” to kill civilians in Gaza and suggesting the country was in the Holy Land “first” – before the Palestinians.

Both Hebrew and Palestinian tribes were in Canaan according to ancient Egyptian writings. Other tribes were present as well. In the 10th century BCE during the supposed unified monarchies, there may have been as little as 30,000 people in Israel, roughly 2 persons per sq mi, since the land is mostly desert. Archaeologist have yet been unable to verify Jerusalem was a major city or the at the time. The justification for the 'homeland' relies largely on historically uncorroborated genocides in the Book of Joshua exacted by the Hebrews on tribes that had settled in Israel before them.
