anybody playing options can hedge losses by buying stock in DLJ and JEF. When the stock market has turned into a casino, it's nice to own the house and the computers that run the statistics when you play at the tables rigged against you -ggg-

<<aren't some of you tired of consistently losing>>

I think that most if not all of us here on this thread
are aware that this market is still trending up. I am
sure that many of us realize a lot of it is speculative,
and have taken advantage or some good plays. After all,
sure Microsoft and Dell are up...but I've made 100% and
50% on two small cap plays--I'll take my return on
these over the 30% the big caps are up.
There are lots of things bouncing off bottoms. Sure the
puts on aol, dell, msft etc have been losers, but that's
a pittance. The question is whether or not we would want
to hold these big momentum over-valued mega caps. Late
in a bull market, I think time runs out for the big ones.
There has been a window of opportunity to catch some
dead cat bounces...and some real bounces in neglected
issues.

Now I don't know if I am conceptually right or not...
but at least I am making money...even as I flush the
occasional batch of worthless puts down the toilet.

I was chatting with a broker at Kennedy Cabot, which
is where I trade my options only--he was more than a
little bit rude when he looked over my trades from
last week. Sure I felt embarrassed that my puts all
look like silly bets. Put MSFT, up it goes, put Dell
up she soars.

I wanted to tell the guy that "yeah, but my real
money is with etrade...and I'm raking it in with
stocks you haven't even heard of".

Hope I did not sound too defensive...as long as
we are all making money!

Regards, Mike

Paulo,

I haven't been consistently losing, unless losing at all means consistently losing. No offense taken at your question, though. I've had a couple of losing positions this year. But more than four winners which have outpaced the losers -- as far as absolute dollar returns.

I did go through a period a year and a half ago when I lost a few thousand dollars on options and I cooled it for a while to review what I'd been doing. I'm much less likely to use them now and play them for shorter term. It's my own fault if I lose, right?

I'm mostly in cash. Are you advertising for a newsletter or something? Take care.
