I believe in new deal solving the great depression. It was public projects. You don’t have to give people money, you can make them work for the money. Federal jobs are public jobs for those who can’t stay competitive for health or mental or age reasons. They typically pay much less, in my field the difference is 2x or 3x. My brother is staying with private sector and earns triple x me even though he lives in poorer UK. London is still a financial hub in Europe.
