<<Cheap and abundant credit is still here >> Yes it is. Many of these small investors have been finding it in their margin accounts. I don't know if anyone else read today's New York Times article on margin borrowing, but apparently margin loans grew at their fastest rate ever in 1997 (51% growth at Charles Schwab). Quote: "People are leveraging their brokerage accounts to the max, using the equity in their mutual funds and small brokerage accounts to pay the costs of daily life..." Damn what I wouldn't give to have 24-hour advance notice before this bubble pops....
