Frank, I am also concerned about their future short term. I feel that ASIA is hurting them more than is evident this qtr. One thing about them, they are no longer afraid to do whatever it takes to get to the future. Realizing that the printer market is maturing for now and knowing that they can out-source from ASIA will greatly improve their margins.
They have been flat all of Y97'. Up to $68 down to $60. Then up to $68, then down to $60. I do feel that the market sees them as a safe haven, and I feel that they will go all the way to about $75 this time. I do not have any financial facts to justify this. Just a gut feeling. I also feel they will retreat back to $64...up & down ....up & down...So I am checking out the "taxable event" problem that R.D. Buschman has pointed out to me.

I have called my tax man at KPMG today, and he will be getting back to me very soon. I'll let you know what I find out. I am thinking about shorting the amount of stock that I own from 18 months ago, when it gets to near the top, say $73.
I love this stock for what it is. A very solid company that you can sleep at night with. Even during the height of the Oct./Nov. ASIA problem, HWP only went down about $5 dollars. In Dec. it actually went back up to $68. Two weeks ago I purchased some before their earnings announcement. I paid $60.50 and I sold it right before DELL reported for a $2.25 gain. I then put the $ in CPQ, thinking that DELL would make that stock run. It didn't. Some say it was because of the Feb 35 calls stagnation. Now that that has expired, I think CPQ will run. After that I think HWP will start its $1 a day ride up to $70.
Long term, I would not worry about HWP. They have the PC game figured out, and will make some major $. Any company that can make Three Thousand and Two Hundred Million Dollars in a year is for real. They spent 1.8 Billion on R&D last year. They will be coming out with new "hip" products as this "information age" continues, and will do very well. Verifone and electronic commerce is a big target for them. I wish they would buy NSCP.
So, I will buy low and sell high. Fun Fun Fun. Much more fun than the bond market. Maybe I'll short once in awhile. DWW II
