I had both also. I remember my mother cutting off my fingernails to lessen the chicken pox wounds from scratching... and the only relief was taking a bath with the shower running.

I think the vaccine came out soon after and my younger brothers were able to avoid it. They got the mumps which I thankfully didn't get.

1963... Measels, Chicken Pox and Kennedy assignation. I loved being in the first grade as it got me away from much younger brothers and gave me a good challenge. So, when I finally returned, I was so excited to be back at school, I broke a rule about riding the slide with a friend (not one at a time) and fell off and broke my arm so missed a few more days of school too.
