Trump is a player. I think much of the tariff talk is for negotiation. He, or at least his people, know that it is inflationary.

Trump literally bankrupted a bunch of apple growers including the biggest one in my town first time around. It was LOL funny because they voted for him! They probably didn't learn anything and likely voted for him the 2nd time around! It was tariffs on Indian aluminum and steel that did the trick. The growers in my area were (not so much now!) still heavily reliant on Red Delicious apples and India was the biggest export market for Washington. Trump killed it and the growers went belly up!
