Oh goodness, Carol, we are watching exactly the same news reports!! Scary, huh? The rain is again moving sideways here, and there is a lot of thunder, but miraculously the phone is working, so I thought I would take advantage of this little bit of time. Yes, I saw the report on lung cancer and women. It certainly is scary. Women's bodies are just so much more sensitive. Alcohol abuse also ruins their bodies much more quickly and definitively than in men. This report would mean that second hand smoke is more dangerous to women as well. One of the talking points in the television advertisements for the California law on nonsmoking bars and clubs is that women who work in these establishments have higher rates of heart disease and cancer than in any other women's job category. I didn't like Michelle Kwan's long program. I thought it was really weak compared to her others that I have seen. She executed it very well, but it was just not that dynamic. I didn't like Tara's, either, but then I never do. I loved that Surya Bonaly did a back flip, landed on one foot, which is very difficult, and then didn't even face the judges at the end. I am a little rebellious like that too, although I try not to be rude. She is turning professional, so she will be much happier (and richer). I am not sure what to think of those guys with the anthrax. There are a lot of white supremacists in the United States, and as it becomes easier for anyone who is reasonably clever to have their own personal weapons of mass destruction, I think this will happen more and more often. I can see them certainly being used to kill everyone around abortion clinics, and gay bars as well. The religious right in this country is very polarized, in particular, and very polarizing. We have a very polyglot society, but one that is filled with ignorance and hatred rather than love, understanding and acceptance. Is there anything like these American problems in Canada? I will be SO HAPPY when I don't live in America anymore!!!! Chrissy
