Sure&#151I will. Some of my bookmarks are more important than others. It would allow some priority control&#151definitely need to stay on top of all the 'weirdnuz' at Ghost, but catching up on 500 IOM sandbox posts isn't the highest order of the day.

Well, yes, but, at the moment just looking at the list
of messages clears the individual count. I'll be
derned if I know how Brad keeps that much context; I
guess it's in the bookmarks. If he's using cookies,
he snuck 'em by me (though I admit I'm not hard to fool).

If he can keep context for individual threads, I'd MUCH
rather have the
count reflect how far I got. Eg, 93 unread, read 12, now
81 unread (plus new ones). Didn't it use to be that way?

Oh, insight. Brad, do you have the last time visited
in each bookmark record? That should do it, anyway.
I can see that what I want would be harder. Maybe
last message visited?

Sorry, digressing. If we get such a contextual count keeper,
then I'd vote for a clear button. As it is, it hardly
seems worth the trouble.

RE: Conditional Second [Third?].

I have no objection to having the ability to clear the message counter on individual threads, but would strongly object to the suggested placement. When destructive things are placed so close to frequently used things, it's easy to make mistakes. I'd hate to hit the "Clear Thread" link when I meant to hit the "(XXX new)" link. I have hit the "Clear 'New Message' Counts" link instead of the first thread several times in the last year and a half.

Maybe if a confirmation screen was added, too.

I think adding another link for each subject in the bookmarks page is a very bad idea. The bookmarks page is already suffering from a too big size and hence slow loading time. Adding another link would add another 20 to 30% of size and loading time.

What I would suggest instead is to throw out the remove bookmark links and and replace them with a separate page for managing the bookmarks. That would considerably reduce the size of the bookmark page.
And it would have the added benefit that the bookmark page could be used as a starting point for automatic downloading without having to wonder why the bookmarked subjects are automatically disappearing. This happens you try automatic downloading with the current page layout.
