End of Detention Without Trial for Jewish Settlers Likely to Fuel West Bank Violence, Security Officials Say
Violence in the West Bank will likely increase, sources say, following the new government policies: the military will no longer hold suspected Jewish terrorists in administrative detention

Yaniv Kubovich, Haaretz, Nov 24, 2024

Sources in the Shin Bet security service and the IDF on Saturday harshly criticized Defense Minister Israel Katz's decision to end the use of detention without trial for Jewish settlers in the West Bank, warning that the move will likely escalate settler violence against Palestinians and members of Israeli security forces.

The sources claim that administrative detention orders are a legal tool overseen by Israeli courts, rarely ever used against settlers suspected of terrorism.

Katz's decision to end the practice for Jewish settlers in the West Bank was announced Friday.

A security source noted that, on average, only about ten administrative detention orders are issued annually against Jews, compared to thousands issued against Palestinians. As of November 1, eight Jewish settlers are in administrative detention, in comparison to 3,443 Palestinians.
